Frequently Asked Questions for Schools

Onsite Arrival

This event is located at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Halls B & C, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
Upon arrival, enter through the East Lobby entrance and proceed up the escalator. Follow signs for Pittsburgh Robotics Discovery Day (Hall B and C).

Can I bring a large group of students under the age of 14?

Pittsburgh Robotics Discovery Day is designed with a business and career focus, and the on-site demonstrations and experiences are best suited for high school-aged students to interact with.

Large student groups (15 or more) may register in advance using the school group registration form so that our team can plan in advance for your arrival.

However, we discourage bringing large groups of students under the age of 14, as available activities may not be ideal for young children without adequate adult supervision.

This event is open to all ages and if you are planning to bring younger children, please be sure they are directly accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.

Where should buses drop off and pick up our group?
Buses may drop off and pick up students at the East Lobby on 10th Street (see map for details) before proceeding to parking. Once inside the East Lobby, take the escalator up to the second floor and follow signs for Hall B and C!
Where can school buses park while our group visits?

We do not provide dedicated bus parking arrangements. You may contact the David L. Lawrence Convention Center directly HERE to inquire further about parking options.

Will there be space to store personal belongings at the convention center?
There will be a sectioned off area where schools may store lunches. Schools must bring lunches in a container (i.e. basket, rubbermaid, box, etc) so that your school’s lunches are grouped together. You may store your container in the designated area while you explore the floor, and retrieve them at lunch time. Please take your containers with you when you leave the Convention Center. No shoes, jackets, backpacks or other personal items will be permitted in this area.
Will lunch be provided?

Schools may bring packed lunches. Please bring a large container to store your lunches in, and label it with your school’s name. There will be an area onsite to store your bins.

Note: No restaurant food will be allowed onsite, per Convention Center rules.

A concession stand run and managed by the Convention Center will also be available from 10AM - 3PM. Be aware that if a student wants to purchase anything at the Convention Center, it is a cashless facility. Accepted forms of payment are Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and Apple Pay. The average lunch cost is approx $15.00 (prices determined by the Convention Center).

How should I register my group?

Teachers must register their schools via the Robotics Discovery Day School Group Registration Form . Student names are not required, however we need an accurate count for how many students are attending.

How long should I plan to stay at the event?
Most groups will stay around two hours to get the full experience. School groups with students under the age of 18 are encouraged to limit attendance to the 9:00 am to 12:00 pm timeframe.
How can I get more information on bussing reimbursements?

Schools bringing High School aged students can request transportation reimbursement via the Robotics Discovery Day School Group Registration Form. Reimbursement (for up to $400) may be available for some groups (20+ students) in need of assistance. Someone from our team will follow up with next steps.
