Pittsburgh's Boston Takeover at the Robotics Summit & Expo
Pittsburgh is known to travel well, and that was proven once again during the 2022 Robotics Summit & Expo which recently wrapped up in Boston! The Pittsburgh robotics community was disproportionately represented both on stage and in the exhibition halls during the event, which is a leading conference for design, development, manufacture and delivery of commercial robotics and intelligent systems products and services.
Among the industry leaders gathered to present at the Robotics Summit were:
- Amanda Sgroi of RE2 Robotics/Sarcos Technology and Robotics Corporation, who discussed supervised autonomy for outdoor mobile manipulation
- Tom Galluzzo of IAM Robotics, who discussed the various paths to successful commercialization
- Dave Rollinson of HEBI Robotics, who corrected the misconception that hardware is a commodity
- Michael Skocik of the ARM Institute, who discussed AI-enabled robotics in manufacturing
- Tony Melanson of Aethon, who discussed the opportunity landscape for mobile robots in healthcare at the Healthcare Robotics Engineering Forum (which was co-located with the Robotics Summit & Expo)
Pittsburgh companies Argo AI & Aurora were featured during a talk by Fady Saad on the rise of robotics unicorns. Fady also discussed the importance of robotics ecosystem clusters and the new alliance between the Pittsburgh Robotics Network, MassRobotics, & Silicon Valley Robotics. Furthering that alliance, our trip to Boston provided the occasion to tour MassRobotics’ facilities and explore additional opportunities for collaboration between our two world-leading robotics hubs.
One of the major benefits of attending the Robotics Summit & Expo is getting to network with attendees from around the country and around the world. The presence of this global audience meant that we could connect face-to-face with colleagues that we work alongside but don’t often get to see, such as the delegation representing Odense Robotics, Denmark’s cluster for robotics, automation and drones.
It’s true that there are a number of conferences and events that bring the robotics world to Pittsburgh, but we occasionally love to take the show on the road and tell the story of our companies to those who have not yet been able to visit. We’ll always take advantage of a chance to experience another robotics hub, share our knowledge, and bring back new insights and learnings for the benefit of our community.
Congratulations to our partners at WTWH Media for producing another great event! The Pittsburgh robotics community is looking forward to attending the Robotics Summit & Expo again in 2023, which is scheduled to take place May 10-11. Learn more at https://www.roboticssummit.com/.
